New X-Ray Machines Could Stop UK Hand Luggage Misery

3 Oct 2007

New X-Ray machines could lead to the relaxation of the current UK hand luggage restrictions, according to airports operator BAA.

The UK is currently the only country that limits carry-on luggage to one item and Britain's Department of Transport says the restrictions will not be lifted unless it can be proved that this will not cause an increase in security delays.

The new X-Ray machines can take pictures of each bag from several angles - in less time than it currently takes for a single shot. This enables the instant detection of any suspicious items. The machines will be installed at all seven BAA airports next March.
